OPTIZMO's 2025 Email Opt-Out Infographic

Since 2018, OPTIZMO has tracked the shifting landscape of email opt-out behavior through our annual infographic series. Each year adds to the evolving story, and 2025 brings new insights to the landscape. Shaped by the continued rise of AI, evolving regulations, and changing consumer behaviors, this year’s data reflects an industry adapting to a changing environment. The 2025 Email Opt-Out Infographic digs into the when, where, and how of opt-out activity across hundreds of millions of requests processed over the course of the year.

Highlights from the 2025 Infographic:

Geographic Trends: North America continued to drive the most opt-out activity in 2025, accounting for almost 90% of total opt-out volume and further suggesting that the increase in international opt-out activity seen in 2023 was an outlier rather than an emerging trend.
Email Domains: Yahoo! retained its position as the top domain for opt-out activity for the third consecutive year, while AOL saw the biggest increase of any domain, jumping 7.32% in its share of total opt-outs year-over-year.
Monthly Distribution: January 2025 accounted for the highest share of annual opt-outs since the infographic series started in 2018, with monthly distribution also proving more volatile than in prior years.
Operating Systems: Linux saw the most significant OS shift in the infographic’s history, rising from 0.37% of opt-out activity in 2024 to 5.48% in 2025 – the most notable movement recorded in this category to date.
